Course Description

This program is designed to prepare multiple sclerosis nurses for their International Organization Multiple Sclerosis Nurses (IOMSN) certification board examination. The MS nursing certification provides formal recognition of a level of knowledge in the field and focuses on the domains of:

  • Clinical Practice (for example, disease course and epidemiology of MS, pathology, diagnosis)

  • Advocacy (such as ethical practice, knowledge of community resources, patient rights)

  • Education (such as principles of teaching and learning, professional development)

  • Research (for example, evidence based practice, research terminology and process)

Objectives

At the conclusion of this course the participant should be able to:

  • Describe the elements of symptom management;

  • Apply nursing care plans to MS;

  • Compare the various disease modifying therapies and how to use them;

  • Identify the psychosocial aspects of MS;

  • Describe the quality of life issues related to MS;

  • Define the role of rehabilitation therapy in MS.
